April 19, 1931 - January 1, 2022
Wanda Gallaway Porter, a resident of Rockwall, Texas, passed away January 1, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born on April 19, 1931, in Shiloh, Arkansas to A.M. (Dolph) and Ruth Gallaway. She lived most of her life in her home state of Arkansas before relocating with her husband, Howard, to Rockwall 15 years ago. As always, Wanda quickly built relationships in the community and through the church. She and Howard were faithful members of First Baptist Church where she served as President of her Sunday School class and sang in the senior adult choir. She served as an Ambassador through the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved serving her community, spending time with family and friends, traveling all around the country, gardening, and entertaining. Wanda spread joy and laughter everywhere she went. When she worked as a professional clown, her name was, fittingly, JoyBelle. She was happiest when she was bringing happiness to others. To know Wanda was to know how deep of a love she had for her family, her country, and her Savior. Wanda and Howard married on July 4, 1948, a date that was especially significant to them both. They were married for 69 years. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Wanda is survived by her two sons Howard Porter II and Russ Porter and his wife Karen, and by her daughter Laura Hairston and her husband Jeff. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jesse Porter and his wife Moira, Howard Porter III and his wife Katy, Kristen Ainsworth and her husband Kevin, Ryan Porter and his wife Chelsea Porter, Grant Hairston and his wife Katy, and Allison Whitehouse and her husband Mason. She was a proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Howard Porter, and her two brothers J.C. and Paul Gallaway. Wanda was always thinking of creative ways to bless her family and loved ones. In this spirit, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wanda’s memory to support the medical mission work being done by her grandson Ryan and his wife Chelsea in West Africa. Goliad Street, Rockwall, TX 75087 on Saturday, January 8, 2022, with visitation preceding the service at 1:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Rockwall, TX.
