Shirley Ruth Smith

December 12, 1935 - January 19, 2022

Shirley Ruth Smith, age 86, of Rockwall, Texas, left to be with the Lord on January 19, 2022. She was born December 12, 1935, in Douglass, Nacogdoches County, Texas, to Marvin Paul Pleasant and Dessie (Williamson) Pleasant. Shirley loved the Lord, and her greatest desire was for her entire family to know the Lord. Shirley loved her husband, JD Smith, loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was universally loved by all. Shirley worked at ARCO, she was a loan officer for a bank, and was a Real Estate Agent during the 1970's and 80's. Shirley was primarily a homemaker and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting, making jewelry, decorating and cooking. She was fun and creative! She was all about family celebrations and holidays and she always looked for opportunities to play games or brighten someone’s day with a smile or a joke. Shirley is survived by her husband: Jerome Dean (JD) Smith; daughters: Karla Minyard, Terry Atchison and husband Mark, and Kim Minyard; stepchildren: Jimmy Palmer, David Smith, Vicki Lewis and husband Keith, Steven Smith and wife Sharon, and Laura Eppler; sister: Volinda Crawford; brother: Roger Pleasant and wife Kimberly; grandchildren: Mandy Maxwell, Michael Maxwell, Andrew Atchison, Jared Atchison and Josh Minyard; great-grandchildren: Amanda Dodd, Jamie Jackson, Dustin Brown, Eli Atchison, Ada Atchison and Penelope Atchison; 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bobby Pleasant. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 2500 State Hwy 66 East, Rockwall Texas, with Rev. James Donovan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. A gathering of friends and loved ones will be held at the funeral home, prior to the service, beginning at noon.
