    Kimberly Kay (Freeman) Matthies

    February 14, 1970 - February 1, 2022

Kimberly Kay (Freeman) Matthies was born on February 14, 1970, in Dallas, TX. Kim grew up in Dallas and graduated from Lake Highlands High School. She was an athlete in High School and was a starter on the Wildcat Varsity Girls Basketball team. Kim raised two beautiful daughters while also having a very successful career in the fashion industry working for companies such as Liz Claiborne, Tandy, Mustang Printing, and Military Sales and Service. If you knew Kim, you know how she lit up a room whenever she walked in. She had a magnetic personality and a smile that made you feel so warm. Kim loved her family and always wanted everyone to be together as much as possible. As a mom, Kim loved her two daughters as they would say “more than self it life”. She always put them first and would do whatever it took to provide the best life for them. Through the ups and downs of life, they always stuck together and were inseparable. In 2009, Kim met Rick Matthies and they were married in May of 2014. Rick was the light of her life and treated her and her girls so well. Kim and Rick enjoyed attending concerts, sporting events, gardening, and most of all they enjoyed spoiling their 6 grandchildren who loved their “Kay Kay”. In business, Kim impacted the young women that she met in her business career. She was a teacher, encourager, cheerleader, and mentor to so many and they are a testament to the love and dedication she showed to her companies and the lives of others. Kim had so many friends who she loved, and they loved her. Some were lifelong friends and others were more recent, but you always felt like you knew her well. She loved her family and most of all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus. As believers, we are called to be a light to the world and Kim was that Light! Kim is survived by her husband Rick Matthies, her daughters, Whitney Ohlhausen, Hanna Ohlhausen, stepdaughter Nicki Graves and her husband Jeremy, stepson Ricky Matthies and his wife Emily, parents, Larry and Sandria Freeman, her brother Greg Freeman and sister-in-law Tricia Freeman, nephew Trevor Freeman and niece Meredith Freeman, and 6 grandchildren, Jaxon, Olivia, Charlie, Miles, Eden and Mila.
