    John Austin Denton

    March 27, 1934 - February 28, 2022

    John Austin Denton, born March 27, 1934, in Heath, Texas, across the street from the Church at 1140 (Smirl Drive & Barnes Bridge Rd (Terry Ln)), where the original FBC of Heath was located. He passed away on February 28, 2022, at Dallas Regional Hospital in Mesquite. John was born to Lonnie Lee Denton & Verna (Pinion) Denton. He went to school in Heath until 1948, when the school was closed and they had to transfer to Rockwall, and he graduated in 1951, from Rockwall High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church since the 1940's. On October 2, 1952, he married Mary Carey Denton from Forney, and they made their home in Mesquite. From there, they moved to Garland, Texas, where he resided until his death. John was retired from the City of Irving as Construction Supervisor, prior he was with Dallas Housing and worked in the construction business. John, was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Carey Denton, adopted son, Thomas Patrick Kelly, brother and wife James L. and Alyne Kemp Denton and niece Janie Beth Denton. He is survived by his children: James M Denton, Garland Tx, John M. & Rita Banning Denton, Garland Tx, Joe M Denton, Garland, Tx, Judy M Denton, Garland, Tx, and Jan M. & Larry Butler Mesquite, Tx. Grandsons: Bryan Austin & wife Shadera Denton, Frankston, Tx, Michael Taliaferro, Auckland, New Zealand, Christopher M. Denton Irving, Tx, Corey M. Denton & fiance Ashley Bench, Garland, Tx, Matthew D. & wife Holli Denton, Mesquite, Tx, Casey, Shawn, and Noah Butler of Mesquite, Tx, granddaughter: Lexi M Nixon, Garland, Tx. Great-grandsons: Cash Taliaferro, Auckland, New Zealand, Kaden Denton, Garland, Tx, Jackson & Logan Denton, Mesquite, Tx Peyton Clark, Frankston, Tx, Mathieu Barrett, Frankston, Tx David Abbott, Garland, Tx; great-granddaughters: Haley Jo Denton, Nevada, Tx, Lily Denton, Frankston, Tx, Kendall Lovell, Garland, Tx, Kinsely Ray, Garland, Tx and Emily Barrett, Frankston, Tx; Nephew: James R. Denton, Mesquite, Tx and host of other nieces and nephews of the Carey family, cousins: Charlotte Pinion Krider, Royse City, Tx, and Larry Parker, Dallas, Texas; as well as former daughter-in-law and family, Gayle & Randy Philbeck and Children. A gathering of loved ones and friends will take place on Monday, March 7, 2022, beginning at 12:00 PM at Heath Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Phil Alford officiating. Burial to follow in Heath Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heath Baptist Cemetery Association.
