Don was born June 26, 1939, in the family home of John & Sarah Taylor in Kemp, TX. He was the second son in this young family that brought five boys into this world. Don passed away suddenly on May 6, 2021 while working in Scurry. He resided in Terrell for the past 36 years. Don is survived by sons Don Taylor (Longview, WA), Marcus Taylor (Dallas), daughter Misty Ausborne (Jarrod) of Forney and his grandson, Beckam Grey Ausborne. He leaves brothers Ken Taylor and John Taylor (Nancy). Special cousins throughout his life include John Paul Wilkins (Shirley) & Bill Duckworth (Doris). Jimmy & Joyce Butler were his lifelong friends. Numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends mourn his passing. Don was predeceased by his parents John Wesley Taylor and Sarah Marshall Taylor, and brother Jerry Taylor, Sr. Growing up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Don attended Clinton Russell Elementary, Boude Storey Jr. High and the legendary South Oak Cliff High Schools. Following his dad into the meat cutting trade, Don worked for Safeway Food Stores and Randall's Tom Thumb after the KKR buyout of Safeway. Very early in his career with Safeway he was promoted to manage a meat market in Weatherford, TX. At age 21, he was the youngest market manager at Safeway Foods, Inc. He consistently held the top market share at the stores he managed throughout Dallas during his career. Don assisted his brother Ken at the Scurry ranch for the past 12 years. He was a great mentor to the ranch hands he loved and enjoyed working with. Hobbies included training and raising Quarter horses and eventually raising and racing homing pigeons. He belonged to the Dallas Homing Pigeon Racing Club and the Cedar Creek Pigeon Racing Club. Don gained the reputation of being a top breeder of high quality birds. His loft name was Flying Christian. He was a good Christian man who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He did not hesitate to discuss his faith in God. He always viewed the glass as "half full." Whenever he faced adversity, he sought a method to change it into opportunity. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Victory Baptist Church, 6651 Colquitt Rd, Terrell 75160. Pastor Gene Williams will officiate. Masks are optional.
