Charles “Ti Marcel” Jean-Pierre transitioned Tuesday, January 25th in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gonaïves, Haiti on August 12, 1954, and was the fifth child born through the union of Denise Marie (Moise) Jean-Pierre and Paul Marcel Jean-Pierre. Growing up, Charly's birthday was a huge family celebration. He was born on the day the village of his ancestral roots celebrated their patron Saint's holiday; Fête Sainte Claire Marchand Dessalines. After graduating top of his class from Petit Séminaire College Saint Martial, university he matriculated to the Faculté de Médecine et de Pharmacie-Universite d’Etat d’Haiti. He later earned an associate degree from Thornton Community College and graduated with a master’s degree with honors from Governors State University. Charly met the love of his life, Ketly Lacruz, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1965. They wed in 1976. His passion and commitment to his growing family led them to immigrate to the U.S. in the early 1980s. They settled and raised their children in the south suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Papy Charly, as he was affectionately called, worked as a licensed real estate broker and Postal Supervisor for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. In search of a more serene environment, Charly relocated to Royse City, a Dallas suburb, for a postmaster job opportunity. Soon after, he rededicated his life to Christ and served as a Sunday school teacher at Higher Ground Church in Sunnyvale, TX. Charly was an avid reader, traveler, teacher, and family historian. He loved music and dancing to international music from kompa, to salsa, to smooth jazz. Charly loved athletic competitions: soccer in particular. His favorite pastimes included playing the guitar, dominos, and chess. He enjoyed film production and was the founder of the Culture Video Club. Charly was knowledgeable and loved to learn; he had an expansive collection of books and a photographic memory. One of his greatest personal achievements was retracing his family tree, dating back to the 19th century. Charles will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Ketly Jean-Pierre, and children: Ralph Dany Jean-Pierre (Claribel), Marcelle Valerie Robinson (Corey), Marcella Rogers (David), Charles Philippe Jean-Pierre and Elizabeth Jean-Pierre. His grandchildren “petits enfants” shared his love of sweets, particularly ice cream and warm milk. His legacy lives on through: Jasmine, Kiera, Zavier, Nyasa, Dexter, Kayla, David Jr., Jordan, Corey Jr., Nicholas Marcel, Viviana, Morgan Denise, Janna, and Eleazar. Charly was a devoted husband, loving father and Christian. He was a highly sensitive individual and selfless unifier; for some he is a hero. His smile, memory, and genuine presence will forever remain in the hearts and minds of the entire Jean-Pierre family, relatives, and a multitude of supportive friends. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
