July 15, 1947 - June 8, 2021
Bertha Marie Paul Sanford was born on July 15th, 1947, in Brewton, Alabama to Claude and Mary Louise Paul. She transitioned to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of June 8th, 2021, in Rockwall, Texas. She was the fifth child born to Claude and Mary Louise Paul and was known to say she was, “Proud to be a Paul Girl”! She grew up in a Christian home and professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and received her Baptism of faith. She cherished the memories of growing up in Alabama with her parents and siblings, and would speak of these times with great affection and love! She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Brewton, Alabama and graduated in 1965. This same year she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and married John W. Sanford, also of Brewton, Alabama. To this union, three children were born Tracey, Theresa, and Trina Sanford. Her daughters became the focal point of her life and she showered them with unconditional, extraordinary, and immeasurable love! Their home was filled with laughter and joy. She and her daughters shared an extremely close relationship, and this brought her great pride and happiness! Where ever she went her daughters were with her! It was always “Bert and the girls”! She shared her imparted Christian faith to her daughters and all received their Baptism of faith! This was very important to her that she raised her daughters in a Christian home. To this day, her daughter’s faith and commitment to Jesus Christ remains strong! This is a great attribute to her that will live on forever! Our Mother held many positions of employment over the years to support and care for her family. Her last position was her most rewarding, working as a Family Educator for Maryville Reception Center in Chicago, Illinois, caring for neglected children. This was the perfect position for her as she loved caring for and helping others. She had the heart of a servant and this was shown daily as she nurtured and cared for these children with love, tenderness, and compassion. They would call her “Grandma”, as they felt her love surrounding them. She retired from this position in 2003 and moved to Rowlett, Texas, to live with her daughter Theresa in 2004, her daughter Tracey lived nearby as well. Great times were shared during these years as laughter was always a part of our lives. Our Mother loved to make people laugh and had an incredible sense of humor. She was always the center of attention and enjoyed spending time and talking to her family and friends! She enjoyed cooking, cruising, watching her favorite TV programs, listening, and being a source of support to her people who would come to her for counsel and advice. This was one of her gifts! She loved being able to help others in any capacity. This role gave her a sense of purpose and was very important to her. Her greatest joy came from loving and spending time with her two granddaughters, Kaelyn and Nahla, and Great Grandson Karter Roman. These children were truly the Joy of her life. She shared great times with them that will live on in their memories forever. She loved them immensely! They loved their Grandmother! This brought her so much happiness to share her love with them. Our mother was cared for and loved by so many over the course of her life and her absence will sorely be missed until we are reunited once again in Heaven. Awaiting to reunite with her in heaven are her daughters, Tracey LaRosa and Husband Manny of Rockwall, Texas. Theresa Sanford of Rowlett, Texas and Trina Sanford of Crown Point, Indiana. She leaves to cherish her love and memories with her granddaughters, Kaelyn and Nahla, and great-grandson Karter Roman. Siblings Annie Paul of Brewton, Alabama, Ted Paul of Georgia, Claude Paul II of Georgia, Dorothy Paul of Dyer, Indiana, and Debra Parker of Chicago, Illinois. Nieces, Joslyn, Shannon, Sonya, and Keisha. Nephews Vincent and Claude Paul III. A host of friends and family members. Preceding her into eternal life are her loving parents Claude and Mary Louise Paul, Brothers William Paul, Bobby Paul, and James Paul. Two Nephews Marcus Coleman and Anthony Paul. There are no words to describe this immeasurable and devastating loss, but our hope and faith lie with Jesus Christ as his word says we will all reunite once again in heaven! What a day of great joy this will be when we’re reunited and live with our Precious Beloved Mother once again for all of eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Until we meet again Mommy, we will hold our loving memories of you close in our heart! A celebration of Bertha's life will be held 1:00pm Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location.
