Raymond William Schwertner, age 93 of Rockwall, TX, passed away January 19, 2010. He was born April 26, 1916, in Miles, TX, to Edward Jr. & Veruna (Jasek) Schwertner.  Mr. Schwertner was a farmer in both Rowena and Wall, TX. He retired from operating heavy equipment for Tom Green County Road Maintenance. Mr. Schwertner was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Lake Council 9337. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge in San Angelo, TX.
 
He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Melva (Block) Schwertner of Rockwall, TX; son: Ray D. Schwertner & wife Sheila of Rockwall, TX; grandchildren: Jared Schwertner & wife Tara of Rockwall, TX, and Jordan Schwertner of Dallas, TX, and Lacy Schwertner of Rockwall, TX; great grandchild: Ethan Schwertner and another on the way; siblings: C.J. Schwertner & wife Marie of Winters, TX, Leo Schwertner of Lake Charles, LA, Dorothy Rohmfeld of Olfen, TX, Jerline Bartells & husband Ervin of Hereford, TX, and Mona Bryan & husband Truett of Lubbock, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Schwertner was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Jenise Schwertner in 1968; and siblings: Alfred, Oscar and Benjamin Schwertner, Elizabeth Jost and Willie Mae Niehues.
 
Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Friday, January 22, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Rd, Rockwall, with Rev. Msgr. Robert M. Coerver officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00pm.

Melva, I just learned of Raymond's passing.  You are in my prayers that God will grant you comfort and a sense of His presence with you.  Raymond was always pleasant when we saw him and upbeat.  I know you will miss him terribly.  tom conner
